Location: Ash niche in Columbarium RoomIn the early 1940's, Marie Callender had a reputation for her pies. In 1948, she opened a full service bakery in a Quonset hut, in Long Beach, California. In 1964, her son opened the first Marie Callender restaurant. Today there are over 170 restaurants in the US and Mexico. She can also be found in the frozen section of your grocery store..
It is also rumored that the 39 Heavens Gate cult, ate their last meal at a Marie Callender's in San Diego, California.
FUTURE HOME OF DR. ROBERT SCHULLER & WIFE
Robert Schuller arrived in Garden Grove in 1955 and started conduction services at the old Orange Drive-In. His church name was the Reformed Church in America. On Sunday mornings, he would stand on top of the Snack Bar and conduct services, while followers sat in their cars listening on the drive-inn's speakers.
On September 14, 1980, he opened the Crystal Cathedral. The cathedral has over 10,000 windows, two 90 foot tall doors, seats over 2,890 visitors and has room for a 1,000 person choir. The cathedral also has a Jumbo-tron, for better viewing and still has drive-in worship, just like when he was preaching at the Orange Drive-In.
